Elite discourse and racism. Sage series on race and ethnic relations, Vol. 6.

摘要:

introduces a new multidisciplinary discourse approach to the study of racism. Based upon his own empirical studies, van Dijk shows that elites play a primary role in the reproduction of ethnic dominance and racism in the popular culture of western societies. Through influential text and talk—elites manufacture the consent needed to legitimate their own power and leadership in maintaining the dominance of the majority ethnic group. Unique to this book is the focus on the more subtle, discursive dimensions of modern elite racism manifested in politics, business, academia, education, and the media. Van Dijk's critical theory of elite racism is an important breakthrough for scholars and students in race relations, discourse analysis, communication studies, linguistics, cognitive and social psychology, sociology, anthropology, political science, and history.
