Alternative Pathways out of Rural Poverty in Mexico.

摘要:

The article discusses three paths away from rural poverty outlined in the 2008 World Development report of the World Bank, as they apply to Mexico. The three paths--farming, labor, and migration--are assessed in the context of neoliberal policy reforms, with attention to the following issues: national and international rural labor migration; fair trade and organic agricultural production; and possible Mexican agricultural policy reforms, especially ones oriented toward small-scale farming, proposed by independent peasant organizations associated with the "sin maíz no hay país" (no country without corn) movement.
