Do Decentralized Innovation Systems Promote Agricultural Technology Adoption? Experimental Evidence From Africa

We assess the performance of a participatory, bottom-up approach to promoting innovation in central African agriculture. [•] We use an experimental research design to facilitate causal inference. [•] The participatory approach, based on innovation platforms, promotes the adoption of crop management innovations. [•] Not allinnovation platforms are successful, and we present tentative evidence that platform age (maturity) and ex ante levels of social capital matter for performance.
