Lyell Island (Athlii Gwaii) Case Study: Social Innovation By The Haida Nation.

A case study is presented concerning social innovation by the Haida Nation during its struggle to attain land control and decision-making power on Lyell Island, also known as Athlii Gwaii, off of the coast of British Columbia via a blockade and demonstration. It examines the actions of the organization the Council of the Haida Nation (CHN) related to Lyell Island, protection from industrial logging, and the impact of the actions of the Haida Nation on subsequent environmental campaigns in Canada and elsewhere.
