"REDISCOVER CULTURAL HERITAGE OF MINANGKABAU THROUGH ‘GASTRONOMIQUE’ IN KAMPUNG ULU RENING, MUKIM BATANG KALI, HULU SELANGOR"

Food like living things are sensitive and easily involves in changes through modernization or urbanization, this involved the human-being, who socially change. With the aging population, more females in labor force and longer working hours, prosperity and advance technologies, healthier eating, individualism, declining cooking skills and breakdown of traditional meal times are the factors changed the way of new generations to forget the heritage food of their ethnicity or clans. This study examined the Minangs food culture especially the ‘Rendang Minang’ and the perceptions on the new generations on the tedious ways of preparing and cooking it. The importance of having the recipes written, documented and recorded are ways of preserving for future generations to read, understand and try the recipe. The study was conducted in Kampung Ulu Rening, in Mukim Batang Kali, Hulu Selangor. Through oral interview and observation some useful insights are information regarding the issues of interest have been obtained. The advancement of technologies and modernization of lifestyles have changed the mentality of new generation, especially with the emergence of convenient and fast food. This alteration has lessening the new generation of youngsters the ability to prepare the heritage food their grandmother and mother inherited from the past.
