Some recent innovations in tourism education in Ireland

摘要:

Since 1988 there have been considerable developments in tourism and education for tourism in Ireland. There has been an increasing move from an agriculture to a service economy. In 1949 43% of the labour force was engaged in agriculture; by 1989 slightly less than 16% were employed in agriculture, whereas services, at .55%, had almost doubled their 1949 level. Within the service sector, tourism, omitting food and accommodation, provides a range of career opportunities with approximately forty subdivisions.’ For the purposes of this paper programmes designed for implementation within the second level education system and a programme for those already working in tourism are discussed. Information is also given on the development of tourism specific language modules.
