Community-based association: a potent instrument for promoting accountability in local government administration in Nigeria

This article attempts to justify the potency of Community Based Associations as instrument for the promotion of accountability in Local Government Administration in Nigeria. The paper gave some definitions of local government, and articulated some problems of local government administration in Nigeria. Accountability and model of CBAs' promotion of accountability in Local Government Administration were also discussed. The paper posits that the dismal failure of Local Governments in Nigeria to tackle the problem of poverty and living conditions of the rural populace is due to their inability to explore the participatory approach to rural development. Therefore, the paper concluded that the involvement of members of CBAs using the identified model of accountability promotion would lead to good governance in Local Government administration in Nigeria.
