Civic engagement, or civic education, is a fairly new, multidisciplinary concept that is becoming a requisite for institutions of higher education; it enables students to become actively involved in the community and with topics of local concern. Here, Avard stresses that current events are typically discussed with classes to make education more tangible and relevant to a student's life.
