Public engagement is fun and games

摘要:

A question on what made development program projects successful, when City of Salem's previous initiatives were not is answered. According to Lynn Goonin Duncan, director of Planning and Community Development, City of Salem, using traditional approaches combined with new technologies, they provided multiple entry points into the planning process to ensure that people often at the fringes of civic engagement efforts -- including immigrants, people of color, and youth -- were integral, rather than an afterthought. Jennifer Sien Erickson, regional planner, North Suburban Planning Council Coordinator, MAPC, said this project was successful because it leveraged the unique skills of each partner. Kristin Anderson, chief program officer, North Shore, CDC, added that this project was a success due to the deep level of engagement, both with resident groups and a variety of community stakeholders.
