Public participation in the implementation of forestry decentralization in Indonesia

摘要:

The implementation of decentralization in Indonesia has brought a twofold effect. On the one hand, it has given regions more autonomy to organize and manage their governmental affairs. On the other hand, regional autonomy has caused problems in society such as increased corruption, money politics, and environmental damage. By using a descriptive-qualitative approach, the author evaluated the implementation of forestry decentralization in Indonesia, with a research focus on the Manggarai and Central Maluku districts. This study found that the implementation of forestry decentralization ignored community involvement, and has thus brought negative consequences such as the increasing damage to forest ecosystems and declining public welfare. Therefore, in order to bring benefits for forest conservation and the welfare of the community, forestry decentralization policy needs to be revised to include community involvement.
