Community information services: a view of the theoretical foundations

摘要：

Contribution to a special issue of this journal devoted to community information services. Traces the emergence of these services throughout the world and describes their theoretical foundations along with definitions of terms and key concepts. Further describes various types of alternative service and their distinctive characteristics and functions, and presents a case for promoting this type of service at the present time.
